Op het Clemenceauplein worden twee nieuwe projecten ingeplant die elk op een gelijkaardige manier inspelen op de aanwezige omgevingsfactoren en dagelijkse mensenstromen.
De sportzaal zal in de eerste plaats een belangrijke rol spelen als gymzaal voor de omliggende scholen. Buiten de schooluren staat ze dan weer vrij ter beschikking voor de buurt.
De makerspaces bieden naast een educatieve en recreatieve waarde ook de mogelijkheid om met de hele buurt samen te werken aan een productieve, nuttige tijdsbesteding.
Zowel de sportzaal als de makerspaces bevinden zich ondergronds, op het niveau van het metrostation. Hiermee wordt enerzijds de kostbare open ruimte van het bovenliggende plein gevrijwaard, anderzijds ontstaat er zo een unieke meerlaagse interactie tussen het plein, de nieuwe gebouwen, en het metroperron.
Het ondergondse wordt bovengronds vertegenwoordigd in de gedaante van twee semi-identieke toegangs- en activiteitenpaviljoenen.
Two new projects are planned on the Clemenceau site above the underground metro station. Both of the programs are a direct result of all surrounding urban factors.
The gym plays an important role as educational gym for the many surrounding schools.
Outside school hours the hall is free for the whole neighborhood to enjoy in eachother's company.
The makerspaces also offer a recreational and an educational value for Kuregem, but also bring the opportunity of a productive, durable neighborhood cooperation.
Both of the new buildings are situated underground, on the same level as the metro station. This not only secures the precious open space laying above, it also triggers the unique multi-layered interactions between the above ground square, the new underground spaces and the metro platform.
The undergrounds are represented above ground by two semi-identical pavilions, providing acces and room for social activities.
